NEW DELHI: New Delhi: Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of Aam Admi Pary will meet Wednesday amidst indications of strong action against the dissident leadersYogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan. The panel is expected to refer the case of Yadav and Bhushan to the disciplinary committee of the party’s Delhi unit after the duo organised Swaraj Samvad convention at Gurgaon.
The senior part leaders had already warned of taking serious action against those attending the Swaraj Samvad convention.
AAP rebels Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan on Tuesday, decided to float a new non-political organisation called “Swaraj Abhiyan”after a day-long “Swaraj Samwad”.
Amongst a crowd of around 3,000, Yadav and Bhushan pledged to work for alternative politics. Disgruntled by the functioning of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, supporters and members from all over the country gathered in Gurgaon. However, prominent individuals stayed away from the convention and chose to express solidarity through written statements instead.
“The Swaraj Abhiyan will fight for the rights of farmers, women and common men across the country through ways of protests and rallies,” Yadav said, holding off announcement of a political party, which had been the most widely expected outcome of Tuesday’s meeting. This was after a vote in which nearly 70 per cent workers had favoured staying in the AAP, while 25 per cent had backed the option of forming a new party. Eminent lawyer Prashant Bhushan, recently thrown out of the party’s executive council and sacked from all party posts, said, “The party is taken over by wrong people. Arvind Kejriwal and company have compromised on the principles on which the AAP was formed. We risk becoming like other parties. This isn’t just Kejriwal’s party. Yes, he worked hard, but so did thousands of other people.”
