New Delhi : Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s Pakaj Singh and Rita Bahuguna’s name declared in the BJP’s second list. BJP release 155 names for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections today here.
According to list Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who recently switched sides from the Congress, will contest from Lucknow Cantonment. Senior party leaders Siddharth Nath Singh and Gopal Tandon will contest from Allahabad and Lucknow. Sitting BJP lawmaker Hukum Singh’s daughter Mriganka Singh has got a ticket from Kairana for what would be her maiden election.
Pankaj Singh, who has been in politics since 2012, is an office bearer of the party’s state unit who has been in charge of its mass contact programme during this campaign. Party sources said he had wanted to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, but was not given a ticket.
Mriganka Singh’s candidature had been preceded by the walkout of a senior BJP leader from Kairana, Anil Chauhan. Mr Chauhan had lost the 2014 by-elections from Kairana by around 100 votes and wanted to get a ticket from there this time.
The party’s first list had contained the name of Sandeep Singh, the grandson of former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, who will contest from the family turf of Atrauli. Kalyan Singh had won 10 elections from there.
The list also contained the names of legislators Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana, both accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots.
With the second list, the party has named candidates for 304 of the state’s 403 seats. The 7-phase elections will start on February 11. The results will be declared on March 11.
