New Delhi: In yet another shocker that unfolded on the streets of the Capital, a female two-wheeler driver was assaulted by a traffic policeman for refusing to bribe him in New Delhi on Monday afternoon. Ramanjeet Kaur’s daughter watched in horror as Head Constable Satish Chandra misbehaved with her and damaged her motorcycle before attacking her repeatedly with a brick in the Tughlak Road area.
“I was on my way home with my daughter after attending a PTA meeting
when he flagged me down,” Ms. Kaur said. “He asked me to pay a fine of Rs. 200 on the spot for jumping a red light signal; but I said I’d rather he sent the fine home. That’s when he broke my tail light, began verbally abusing me and finally attacked me,” she added.
The entire incident was caught in video by a passer-by in the basis of
which the accused policeman has been suspended. “HC Satish Chandra, who misbehaved and hit a girl with a stone, has been suspended with immediate effect and arrested. We regret such a shameful act has been committed by a traffic policeman,” said Dr. Muktesh Chander Special CP (Traffic).
The incident comes just a day after a 42-year-old Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus driver was mercilessly assaulted to death by a biker in West Delhi’s Mundka.
