Janjivan Bureau / New Delhi : In a shocking incident, the District Magistrate of Buxar (Bihar) has allegedly committed suicide. He had joined the present posting just a few days ago on August 4.
Pandey was 32-years-old and was an IAS officer from 2012 batch, Bihar cadre.
Mukesh Pandey, allegedly committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad by jumping in front of a moving train. His dead body was found on the railway track at a yard near the Ghaziabad railway station. A suicide note was also recovered along with the body. It was because of the suicide note that the police were able to identify him.
Delhi Police swung into action after receiving a missing complaint from Pandey’s sister-in-law at 7pm, but they could not track down the official. Pandey left from Leela Palace Hotel in Chanakyapuri at around 4pm for District Centre in Janakpuri and later took a metro train. While the police were still looking for him in Delhi, his body was found on railway tracks in Ghaziabad.
At around 6pm, he had sent a message to his father-in-law and other relatives telling them that he was staying at Leela Palace Hotel and he planned to end his life at Janakpuri District Centre in west Delhi.
“The IAS officer sister-in-law, who lives in Delhi, approached the Sarojini Nagar police on Thursday evening and filed a missing complaint. Her father had told her about the message and asked her to approach the police as Pandey’s phone was switched off,” said a Delhi Police official.
A team was sent to the hotel but his room was found locked. He had already left from there. Sarojini Nagar police then informed their colleagues in Janakpuri who reached District Centre looking for the officer but he was nowhere to be found.
The CCTV footage of the District Centre was scanned that showed the officer leaving from there. He was further seen boarding a train at Janakpuri Metro station.
“After information, we launched a search. At night, we got information that a body was found on the railway tracks in Ghaziabad. We had sent our officials there,” said Chinmoy Biswal, additional DCP (South).
After the officer was found dead, the Sarojini Nagar police unlocked his hotel room and found his backpack that contained a small notebook and his clothes.
As Pandey stated in a note found on him, the police recovered a detailed suicide letter written on four pages of a notebook from his backpack that also carried his clothes. Police sources said he allegedly mentioned about his strained married life in the letter and that he was fed up with life.
They said he also wrote about his three-month-old daughter. “A postmortem is being conducted in Ghaziabad. On receipt of their report, further action will be taken,” said Biswal.
