Janjivan Bureau / New Delhi: Police said on Friday that some Dera followers torched a bus in northeast Delhi’s Loni Chowk, as law enforcement remained on high alert in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi after a CBI court convicted Dera Sacha Sauda sect head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case, sparking violence in Haryana and Punjab.
A senior police officer said that even though there have been no specific inputs of Dera followers planning to create trouble in Delhi, security has been beefed up in the national capital as a precautionary measure. The security in areas bordering Haryana has been
“An alert has been sounded in the UP, especially in the districts bordering Haryana and Delhi. A strict watch is being kept at the border. No individual or group would be allowed to foment trouble in Uttar Pradesh,” Additional Director General of Police (law-and-order) Anand Kumar said.
Northern Raily spokesperson Neeraj Sharma said security was tightened at railway stations in the capital after some Dera supporters set light to two stations — Malout and Balluanna — in Punjab.
He added that a directive had been sent to the districts concerned in this regard.
