Janjivan Bureau / CHENNAI: PMK leader S Ramadoss urged Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao to direct chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to convene the legislative assembly and prove his government’s majority to put an end to the prevailing political “mess” in the state. On Thursday in a statement, Ramadoss held the governor responsible for the sorry state of political affairs in Tamil Nadu.
He said the political scene in the state would not have touched the all-time low if the governor had directed Palaniswami to convene the legislative assembly and prove the majority of the government as soon as 19 MLAs and supporters of ‘sacked’ AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary T T V Dhinakaran called on him on August 22 and declared that they lost had confidence in the chief minister and hence they decided to withdraw their support to the CM.
“The inability of the governor to take a decision on the withdrawal of support to the chief minister by 19 MLAs even 24 days after the elected members submitted individual letters to him is the main reason for the prevailing mess,” Ramadoss said.
He regretted that the 21 pro-Dhinakaran MLAs, who withdrew their support to Palaniswami, have embarked on a luxury tour staying in resorts in Puducherry and in Coorg in Karnataka instead of returning to their constituencies and meeting people to resolve their grievances.
He said the Tamil Nadu police who are incapable of containing murders and burglaries in the state reached the resort in Coorg to hold negotiations with the dissident MLAs to switch their loyalties to the Palaniswami camp. He said pro-Dhinakaran MLA V Senthil Balaji had openly accused police officials of threatening to foist “false cases” against the dissident MLAs and lodge them in prison if they refused to extend support to the Palaniswami government.
