Janjivan Bureau / Chandigarh: Honeypreet Insan has surrendered before the Haryana police. She was on the run for over a month after being accused of inciting violence following the conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a rape case. Following the surrender, the police formally arrested her. She will be produced before a court on Wednesday said Panchkula DCP Manbir Singh.
A lookout notice and an arrest warrant were issued by the Haryana Police against Honeypreet after she was booked at Sector 5 police station in Panchkula along with Dera functionaries Aditya Insan and Surinder Dhiman for allegedly inciting violence in Panchkula in the aftermath of the Dera head’s conviction in a twin rape case. Honeypreet denies that she was involved in any of the violence.
Honeypreet, in an interview to a TV news channel, said she would surrender before a Panchkula court on Tuesday. In the interview, she said she would also file an application for bail in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
She said all allegations levelled against her were baseless. She alleged that she was being shown in bad light by the media and others. She alleged that the government had wrongly implicated her in a sedition case.
She said she went with her father, Ram Rahim, to the court like any daughter would do, and that too, with the government’s permission.
When told that her ex-husband Vishwas Gupta and a few Dera followers had accused her of having illicit relations with Ram Rahim, she refuted the allegations.
Honeypreet has been on the run following the conviction of Ram Rahim in two rape cases. Haryana Police had issued a lookout notice for her.
Honeypreet has been accused of hatching the “escape plan” of Ram Rahim after his conviction.
According to reports, few days before, Honeypreet has expressed her desire to surrender herself to the law and enforcement agencies. She was expected to surrender around 9:30AM .Earlier she was planning to surrender before the Punjab and Haryana High Court but a discussion by her counsel, she might surrender before the Panchkula court.
The police, which is making efforts to arrest Honeypreet Insan, had raided various location in order to track her down. It is being informed by the sources that the police is very close to Honeypreet and would like to arrest before she surrenders.
While the search to track down Honeypreet Insan is on, some sources had revealed that Honeypreet and her aides, who are helping her stay away, have switched to chat applications like WhatsApp with new numbers that they seem to have acquired, as they fear that their phones were being tapped.
According to the reports, while commenting on the matter, Haryana Home Secretary SS Prasad claimed that it was due to social media applications that she is still untraceable.
Earlier on September 26, a bail plea filed by Honeypreet Insan’s lawyer was rejected by the Delhi High court. Honeypreet Insan had sought transit anticipatory bail from the Delhi High Court.
