Janjivan Bureau / Rohtak : An inmate of the jail housing convicted Sirsa Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has alleged that the latter is being given a “special treatment” in jail by the authorities.
Rahul Jain, the inmate out on bail, alleged, “Authorities say Ram Rahim is in the same jail, but no one has seen him there. No one is allowed to go where he is kept. All other inmates are locked up when Ram Rahim is let out of his cell, as he mostly goes to the canteen to get water, milk or juice.”
Jain alleged: “Other prisoners have been deprived of basic necessities since Ram Rahim was jailed.”
He said, “Our troubles began the day he was brought to the jail. Earlier, we used to roam freely inside the campus and food was also good, but all this has changed. We are not getting our basic needs, like clothes and shoes. A fellow prisoner approached a judge following which the supply gradually began as the jail authorities were pulled up.”
Jain said the inmates also held a strike against the “injustice”, but it did not change the situation. Jain also rebuffed the reports of Ram Rahim working in jail. “Jail authorities say he works, but we don’t believe it. We have never seen him, he might or might not be working,” he said.
“While the rest of the prisoners can meet visitors only for 20 minutes, Ram Rahim’s visitors are allowed to meet him for two hours,” alleged Jain.
He also alleged that a special vehicle brought food for Ram Rahim. The Dera chief has been sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for raping two female disciplines. The case dates back 15 years.
Ram Rahim has been handed two sentences of 10 years each for two counts of rape, and is locked up in Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail.
