Janjivan Bureau / New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed that a team of two doctors from AIIMS be sent to examine the 8-month-old child in a children’s hospital where she is said to be in a critical condition after being raped allegedly by her cousin here on Sunday.
The order came from a three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra after advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava mentioned a petition seeking urgent hearing.
The Bench directed that the doctors should examine the child and take a decision whether she needed to be shifted to AIIMS for better treatment or some additional medical facilities were required to be provided to her at the children’s hospital.
The court also directed that the Member Secretary of Delhi Legal Services Authority should accompany the team of doctors during the visit.
The CJI said while taking the decision regarding the child, the doctors should keep in mind the concern expressed by the court. The court called Additional Solicitor Generals Tushar Mehta, PS Narasimha and Pinky Anand during the hearing and asked them to make arrangements for the visit of the two-doctor team of AIIMS doctors.
Earlier, petitioner Srivastava told the Bench that the girl was in a critical condition after the surgery and she needed better medical help.
Citing a similar case from Chandigarh, Srivastava also demanded compensation for the victim. It directed the two doctors to submit a report to it by Thursday. After being raped allegedly by her 28-year-old cousin at her home, she has undergone a three-hour surgery at Kalawati Sharan Children’s Hospital and is reported to be critical. She is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of the children’s hospital and is said to be stable.
