Janjivan Bureau /Jammu: Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti called for dialogue between India and Pakistan on Monday, hours after security forces foiled a militant attack at a paramilitary camp in Srinagar.
Speaking on Monday, Mufti admitted that the prevailing security in the state was “not encouraging”, and said that militant attacks such the recent one changed public discourse away from development issues. She said however that war was “not an option”.
The chief minister’s remarks come on heels of two militant attacks, both coming within a day of each other.
A paramilitary trooper was killed in a gun battle that began after some militants unsuccessfully tried to storm a CRPF camp on Monday. Some militants hid themselves in an abandoned house in Karan Nagar in Srinagar after they unsuccessfully tried to lay siege on a CRPF camp located very close to SMHS Hospital.
The attack came within a day of another standoff between militants and army that ended with six people—not including three militants—being killed.
Five army men were among the six people who died when three gunmen stormed an army camp in Sunjuwan.
