Janjivan Bureau / New Delhi : BJP takes strong objection to the Congress describing Nirav Modi as “chhota Modi”. It is demeaning and derogatory and is reflective of their political situation,” Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Congress attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Punjab National Bank scam and said Nirav Modi is Chota Modi. Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday slammed the Congress on its “baseless allegations” in matter related to Nirav Modi. There are thousands of people who share the surname with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said. “
“Assets worth Rs 1,300 crore have been seized and action has been initiated to revoke his passport,” Prasad said.
The BJP asked the Congress to stop doing politics based on photographs, warning them that they have several photographs depicting intimacy between some Congress leaders and Mehul Chowksi.
All the NPAs of banks are the legacy of the Congress-led UPA, Prasad alleged. He also slammed the Congress of insinuating that Vijay Mallya was linked to BJP whereas the business tycoon had thanked former PM Manmohan Singh for the latter’s “help”.
The Modi-led government has not given a single loan that turned NPA, he said reminding the Congress of “string of scams” beginning with Harshad Mehta.
Modi’s partner Chowksi’s income doubled between 2011 and 13, Prasad said, asking the Congress to be careful. “Those with shattered glass houses should be extra vigilant.”
“They bypassed the banking establishment. I wish to make it very clear on the behalf of the government that no one will be spared in the banking system, regardless of status and stature, of official concerned,” he said.
Prasad also rejected observations that Nirav Modi case and Congress insinuation “chhota Modi” will not affect the personal image of Prime Minister Modi. It is shameful and condemnable, he said. “Even if they (Nirav Modi and Chowksi) are abroad, the Indian government’s position is such that strongest action will be taken against them.”
“Nirav Modi did not have any private meeting with the PM. He was not part of the PM’s delegation to Davos. He had gone there on his own,” Prasad said.
