Janjivan Bureau / New Delhi : Opposition leaders from the Rajya Sabha will on Wednesday petition President Ram Nath Kovind over the recent dilution of the Prevention of Atrocities against SCs and STs Act as ordered by the Supreme Court in a judgment some days ago.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad will lead the delegation.
The Congress has been in the forefront of demanding a review of the SC order that stayed the provisions of immediate arrest in the law.
The consequences of this move would be dangerous, said Congress media head Randeep Surjewala adding that the solutions granted immunity to the erring police personnel and other people.
The opposition is miffed that the government didn’t argue its case well and in a way became a mere spectator to the watering down of the law.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 pm on Wednesday.
