Janjivan Bureau / Lucknow : In a major breach of security, a 51-year old notorious sharp shooter, Munna Bajrangi, was shot dead inside Baghpat jail where he had been shifted on Sunday night for a court appearance on Monday.
Involved in around 40 heinous crimes, including murder and extortion, Bajrangi was imprisoned in Jhansi jail.
He had been arrested from Malaad in Mumbai in 2009 for the 2005 murder of BJP Mohammadabad MLA Krishnanad Rai reportedly at the behest of don-turned politician and Mau MLA Mukhtar Ansari who is currently lodged in Banda jail.
Speaking to reporters before leaving for Sambhal Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured to get to the bottom of this custodial murder and not spare those responsible for it. He has also ordered a judicial enquiry.
Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar said that they have suspended Udai Pratap Singh (jailor), Shivaji Yadav (deputy jailor), Arjinder Singh (head warder) and Madhav Kumar (warder).
According to reports, another criminal lodged in Baghpat jail, Sunil Rathi, shot dead Bajrangi early this morning raising questions about how a criminal had a weapon inside the jail.
He was recently shifted to Baghpat jail from Roorkee jail where he had been imprisoned for a long time.
On June 29, Bajrangi’s wife Sima Singh had held a press conference in Lucknow expressing the danger to her husband’s life who was imprisoned inside Jhansi jail.
Demanding security for her husband she had expressed the apprehension of the UP police getting rid of her husband or using another criminal to do the job.
Bajrangi originally from Jaunpur was almost synonymous with terror in Purvanchal in the 90s till his arrest in 2009.
An FIR has been lodged.
