Janjivan Bureau / New Delhi : A video of Uttar Pradesh Police ADG showering rose petals to welcome Kanwariya pilgrims has gone viral on the social media. The video, however, not painted a rosy picture of the top cop and instead has earned him wrath of the Twitterati.
Many Facebook and Twitter users have flayed the act and said it was a waste of public money.
The video of the Additional Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police (Meerut Zone) Prashant Kumar showed him showing rose petals to welcome the Kanwariya pilgrims from a chopper on Wednesday.
Commissioner Anita Meshram and other senior officials were also seen showering rose petals on Kanwariyas from the chopper. The ADG has earlier tweeted the video, but later removed it after a backlash.
In defence, on Thursday, he said, “No religious angle should be given to this, flowers are used to welcome people. Administration respects all religions and actively takes part, even in Gurupurab, Eid, Bakrid or Jain festivals.”
The incident comes two days after Kanwarias were caught on camera creating ruckus in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar after a car allegedly brushed past one of them and a case was registered against a woman driver.
