PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar went knocking on doors in Patna today as he launched “Har Ghar Dastak,” an ambitious door-to-door campaign for the upcoming state elections. Our agenda is to reach one crore homes,” Kumar said. In the next few days, about 10 lakh party workers knocked doors Pachim Darwaza. After a household has been contacted, the home will be marked with a Nitish Kumar sticker.
Starting the programme after offering prayer at Badi Patandevi temple, Kumar knocked the first door of one Krishna Sahu near Paschim Darwaza. The house members were excited to find him at their doorstep. Kumar talked to the family members if they were satisfied with the work done by his government in the past 10 years and also sought views about work the government should do in the future. After coming out of Krishna Sahu home, Kumar knocked doors of nine other homes in the vicinity and talked to the family members.
Kumar told reporters that he as a disciplined soldier of JD(U) had started the “Har Ghar Dastak” programme after it was launched by state party chief. He said efforts would be made to reach out to one crore homes under the programme.
State JD(U) spokesman and MLC Sanjay Singh said “Har Ghar Dastak” programme would run in two phases from July 2 to July 11 and from July 21 to July 31.
The new outreach has been designed by strategist Prashant Kishor, who was earlier a key member of the team that built innovative campaign strategies largely based on the use of social media for Nitish Kumar’s arch rival the BJP’s Narendra Modi, now Prime Minister. Mr Kishor clearly delivers custom-made solutions. His strategy of traditional, on-ground electioneering for Nitish Kumar in Bihar is very different from the clutter-busting techniques that were used for Mr Modi’s campaign in the last Gujarat elections and later the national elections.
The Janata Dal United will first test ground for 10 days with the new campaign and then collect feedback, which will be analysed before the next round is launched.
