Janjivan Bureau / New Delhi : Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s birthday greetings for Prime Minister Narendra Modi created a buzz in political circles on Monday as the Congress veteran wished Modi to serve the nation for many more years to come.
Although Congress President Rahul Gandhi was among the few opposition leaders to wish Modi a happy birthday early, Mukherjee’s tweet on the occasion was seen by many as politically significant and loaded.
“I extend my warm wishes to Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi on his Birthday. May you be blessed with a long, healthy & happy life and continue to serve the nation for many more years to come. #CitizenMukherjee,” Mukherjee said wishing PM Modi a long public life on the eve of next General Election and closer to four state elections.
Mukherjee has in the past too raised the hackles of the Congress by delivering a valedictory address at an RSS event in Nagpur.
The early trend of twitter wishes for Modi presented an interesting picture.
Among opposition leaders who sent their birthday greetings for the PM early were Gandhi, RJD’s Tejaswi Yadav, TMC’s Mamata Banerjee, National Conference’s Omar Abdullah and former Karnataka CM and Congress stalwart Siddharamaiah.
NCP’s Sharad Pawar, CPM’s Sitaram Yechury, PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti and TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu were in no hurry to greet the PM.
Modi also received a birthday message from Malayali film star Mohanlal who is widely believed to be getting closer to the BJP in the state. There is possibility of the BJP preparing Mohanlal to fight the next LS poll from Thiriuvananthapuram, where Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is the sitting MP.
A host of sportspersons also greeted Modi, including VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Hima Das, boxer Vijender Singh among others.
