Janjivan Bureau / Srinagar : Militants on Friday shot dead two political workers and injured another by firing at them from a close range in Karfali Mohalla area of the city, two days ahead of polling for first phase of elections for urban local bodies in Kashmir.
Police said three persons were shot at by militants in Karfili Mohalla of Srinagar in the broad daylight.
“Two among the injured succumbed to their injuries,” a police officer said.
Sources said the two slain were political workers and were associated with the National Conference.
Soon after the incident, police and CRPF cordoned the area to trace the gunmen involved in the attack.
Two mainstream parties, the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party, have boycotted these polls. Militants have already threatened the candidates contesting the polls.
