New Delhi: The Supreme Court transferred the investigation into Vyapam scam and the mystery deaths related to the case to the CBI on Thursday. An apex court bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu handed over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told the court he had instructions by the Madhya Pradesh government on handing over the probe to the central agency. The CBI will start its probe from Monday.
The court also issued a notice on a plea challenging the quashing of an FIR against state governor Ram Naresh Yadav for his alleged involvement in the scam on the grounds that he enjoyed immunity of his constitutional office.
As the mysterious deaths and opposition demands continues, the Supreme Court, will hear pleas of Congress leader Digvijay Singh and three whistle-blowers’ seeking an apex court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) probe into the Vyapam case in Madhya Pradesh.
A bench headed by chief justice HL Dattu had agreed to give an urgent hearing over the case and posted all petitions to be heard today. “ We can fix all the matters together. It will come on July 9,” the bench comprising the HL Dattu and justices Arun Kumar Mishra and Amitava Roy had said. Earlier on July 8, the Madhya Pradesh high court had deferred a plea for a CBI probe till July 20. The court said that it will wait for the SC ruling on petition. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, after the HC decision, had said that he would request the Supreme Court that the investigation in the Vyapam scam be handed over to the CBI.
According to reports, as many as 46 people associated with the deadliest scam as accused or witnesses have died under mysterious circumstances.
