Janjivan Bureau / Chandigarh : Amidst raging GDP revision controversy, the Union government on Friday was confronted with yet another bad news with the economic growth slowing down to 7.1 per cent in the July-September period against 8.2 per cent in the June quarter.
The government data released on Friday revealed the slowdown in the economic growth. In the corresponding quarter last year, gross domestic product (GDP) had grown 6.3 per cent.
The median consensus in a poll of economists by news agency Reuters had put annual GDP growth at 7.4 per cent in the second quarter.
The government has come under fire from the opposition after it recently recalculated the GDP figures during the UPA era ahead of the next year’s general elections.
