Janjivan Bureau / Lucknow : A police inspector was killed in Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday after violence broke out in the aftermath of an alleged case of cow slaughter, police said.
A 20-year-old youth was villager also succumbed to injuries received in police firing.
According to information here, members of several Hindu groups with an alleged cow carcass gathered on the Bulandshahr-Syana road and pelted stones at the police personnel.
The Hindu Yuva Vahini and Bajrang Dal activists also vandalised vehicles and attacked police officials. They torched several passing vehicles.
In the violence, Inspector Subodh Singh of Syana police station and four constables were injured. The profusely bleeding inspector was rushed to the Aurangabad community health centre (CHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
District Magistrate Anuj Jha confirmed the death of the police officer.
Additional Director General of Meerut zone Prashant Kumar said a mob pelted the police with stones and indulged in arson setting several vehicles and the Chingarwathi Police Chowki on fire.
As tension prevailed in the area, policemen from several police stations have been rushed along with senior officials to take control of the situation, police said.
