Janjivan Bureau / Bhopal : The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting has begun in Bhopal in the wake of the election results in Madhya Pradesh. Congress leaders Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia are present, as well as party observer AK Antony.
Madhya Pradesh Election Result 2018: The Congress, which was engaged in a seesaw battle with the Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday when votes were being counted in the Assembly Elections 2018, emerged as the single-largest party with 114 seats on Wednesday morning when the counting ended. The party fell two short of the simple majority mark of 116 seats, but secured support from Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party to form the government. Its delegation has now met the Governor and staked claim to form the government in the state.
Out of 230 seats up for grabs, the BJP won 109 seats. The BSP won two seats, the Samajwadi Party one, and Independent candidates registered victories on four seats. Interestingly, the BJP was slightly ahead of the Congress as far as vote share is concerned. The BJP got 41 per cent while the Congress got 40.9 per cent of the total votes polled. The Congress and the BJP had both declared their intention to form the government with the help of others, including Independents, even before the announcement of the final results. However, later, outgoing CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that his party would not stake claim to form the government.
I have one request for the incoming government: continue with the schemes the the BJP government had launched for the betterment of the people. People will come and go but government should continue to work for the people – Shivraj SIngh Chouhan
