New Delhi: The death toll in the building collapse in West Delhi today rose to four even as rescue operations are underway to rescue those feared trapped in the debris.The deceased have been identified as Sandhya (30), Om Prakash (50), Bina (15) and Sarvati (33).
A young girl is still suspected to be trapped in the debris of the four-storey building which had collapsed last night in a narrow lane in Vishnu Garden area of West Delhi, Joint CP West Delhi Range Dipendra Pathak said.
Eight persons were injured in the collapse. They have been identified as Ravi (30), Madan (3), Aman (12), Shyamlal (50), Pooja (15), Brijlal (65), Prem Babu (51) and Hemant (19), Pathak said.
Six of the injured were discharged immediately after treatment while two seriously injured persons were shifted last night to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, he added.
A 4-storey building collapsed in the West Delhi’s Vishnu Garden area on Saturday night. Nine people have been rescued from the debris while many are still feared to be trapped in the rubble.
Home Ministry said all injured shifted to hospital for tretment. One team of NDRF and state disaster team deployed for rescue operation. 15 fire tenders are at the site of the building collapse at C Block near Masjid Khayala area.
“Structure of the building was weak. Teams have been working continuously working from last 12 hours,” said the Director General of the NDRF.
An FIR has registered against the building’s owner for negligence and culpable homicide. Residents and locals had also complained to the owner that the building was beginning to tilt.
Aam Aadmi Party MLA Jarnail Singh blamed the Municipal Corporation for the mishap.
Delhi Fire Department Chief AK Sharma said that the narrow passage leading to the collapsed building made it difficult for rescue teams to take their equipment to the site.
An official said that the building caved in as digging was going on at an adjacent plot for construction of a new structure.
