New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi set a conditon to end the logjam in Parliament and said the financial transactions between Lalit Modi and Sushma’s family must be made public. He also said Prime Minister must clear his stand on Sushma Swaraj, [Rajasthan chief minister] Vasundhara Raje and [Madhya Pradesh chief minister] Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Swaraj made a statement in the Lok Sabha on Thursday on the issue in the absence of the opposition and denied having helped Lalit Modi get travel documents from the British authorities. Modi is living in London since 2010 after he was suspended as the IPL chief over grave charges like corruption and illegal monetary transactions.
Swaraj, however, did not clarify her family’s relations with that of Lalit Modi in her statement to parliament.
“There are financial transfers that have taken place between Lalit Modi and Sushma Swaraj’s family. Sushma Swaraj should explain how much money of Lalit Modi has been credited to her and her family’s account? In Madhya Pradesh there are murders happening and our prime minister does not comment on them. The PM praises Madhya Pradesh CM and ignores the fact that future of thousands of students has been destroyed by him. The PM ignores that there is a business relationship between a criminal [Lalit Modi] and the Rajasthan chief minister,” Gandhi said.
The BJP had earlier offered Prime Minister Modi’s intervention if the opposition agreed to debate Lalit Modi and Madhya Pradesh’s admission-cum-recruitment scam Vyapam but it didn’t elicit any response from the Congress party.
The BJP has accused the Congress of destroying parliamentary democracy traditions. “They [Congress party] just make allegations and run away when people are answering and clarifying things,” junior parliamentary affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
