Janjivan Bureau / New Delhi : Chaos was on Thursday witnessed in the Lok Sabha over “sexist” remarks made by SP leader Azam Khan on Rama Devi, who was officiating the proceedings, while the House was discussing the contentious triple talaq bill.
Notably, Rama Devi herself insisted that remarks may be expunged, which Azam Khan kept insisting was only meant for a “sister whom he loved”.
As tempers ran high, former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav defended Azam Khan’s comments: “Main aap ko itna dekhna chahta hoon ki aap kahen ki nazar hata lo.”
“Mujhe to aap yu bhi itni achchi lagti hai, itni pyari lagti hai, ki dil karta hai ki aap ko dekhata rahun.”
The remarks were made after Rama Devi told him to address the chair directly.
The Samajwadi Party later walked out even though Speaker Om Birla, who had returned to the House following the ruckus, allowed him to speak.
“Aise aapmanit ho ke bolne ka kya fayda,” said Azam Khan as the SP walked out.
