Janjivan Bureau / New Delhi : Speaker Om Birla, in coordination with Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu has lastly finalized all the 24 Department-related Standing Committees. Where as Jayant Sinha has been appointed as the chairman of the crucial panel on finance, Ramesh Bidhuri hasbeen appointed Chairperson of the Petroleum and Natural GasCommittee. According to Parliament of India website Radha Mohan Singh has been appointed Chairperson of the Committee on Railways.
There are 24 Department-related Standing Committees with each of them having 21 members from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha.
During the previous session of Parliament the Opposition parties have been agitated about the lack of parliamentary scrutiny before clearing several critical legislations. Even the entire budgetary exercise was completed without vetting by the Department Related Standing Committees and the Budget was passed by guillotining Demands for Grants of all ministries other than the ministries of Road Transport and Highways, Rural Development and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Youth Affairs and Sports which were discussed in the House.
The Standing Committees of Parliament are established to study and deal with various matters that cannot be directly handled by the legislature due to their volume.
While Jayant Sinhahas will chair the Committee on Finance, Ramesh Bidhuri will head the panel on Petroleum and Natural Gas. Jual Oram has been appointed Chairperson of the Committee on Defence while Congress deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma replaces P. Chidambaram as the Chairman of the panel on Home Affairs.
Among other panel heads, K. Keshava Rao will chair the Committee on Industry and Sudip Bandyopadhyay will be the Chairman of the Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution.
