Patna : Former chief minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha chief Jitan Ram Manjhi is facing anothe controversy. His affidavits are making news, all for the wrong reasons according to a report published in a leading daily. When Manjhi fought the 2014 general elections from Gaya on JDU ticket, his affidavit said that his village home in Mahkar is worth Rs 50,000.
According to his latest affidavit filed for the nomination from Makhdumpur assembly constituency, now the same property has been valued at Rs 13 lakh. So the value of the property has increased 26 times in just one year six months.
This is not it. There are many other elements in his affidavit that are rather perplexing. Manjhi, who is contesting two seats in the upcoming assembly elections, both in Gaya; one from Makhdumpur and another from Imamganj, filed nominations on September 21 and September 27 respectively.
According to the affidavit filed on September 21, Majhi didn’t own any weapon, and a week later he declared he owns two – a double barrel gun valued at Rs 30,000 and a rifle valued at Rs 70,000.
The discrepancies go even further. Manjhi’s asset saw a decrease of nearly 2 lakh in a matter of 6 days from Rs 38,21,876 to Rs 36,42,527, while his wife’s asset saw a sudden jump of Rs 50,000 from Rs 11,77,554 to Rs12,27,554.
Wait for the best one. His affidavit also provide details of bank savings Manjhi and his wife have in the Mahkar branch of Madhya Bihar Gramin Bank. Before going any further, let’s also know that this branch started after Manjhi took over as CM in May, 2014. As per the affidavit, Manjhi has got Rs 9,64,328 and his wife who is a homemaker, has got Rs 8,87,554 in the bank.
This is in complete contradiction with what he has stated as his annual income for financial year 2014-15, which is a mere Rs 3,31,904 – six time less then what he and his wife have in their bank accounts.
If compared with the affidavit filled in 2014, Manjhi’s asset witnessed a jump of about 18 lakh from Rs 20.6 lakh to Rs 38.21 lakh while his wife’s from Rs 2.59 lakh to Rs 11.77 lakh in the very period.
Party spokesperson for HAM, Danish Rizwan said that there are some mistakes for which rectification plea has been filed before the returning officer but hasn’t been uploaded on EC website as yet. On the matter of income, he gave a tepid excuse. He said that Manjhi was CM for nine months during which all his expenses were met by the state government which is why he was able to make such savings.
