By Bula Devi / New Delhi : Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others have been sentenced to life imprisonment in a 2002 murder case of his manager Ranjit Singh. A special CBI court in Panchkula on Monday awarded the life imprisonment.
The other four accused include Jasbir Singh, a follower of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh; Krishan Lal, a manager of Dera Sacha Sauda; Sabdil, the gunman of Dera chief; and Avtar Singh, a functionary of the sect.
The court has slapped a fine of Rs 31 lakh on Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and Rs 50,000 fine on each of the remaining accused.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has already been serving prison terms for rape and another murder.
“We are satisfied (with the punishment). It has been a long battle for my family. We have lived in fear all these years but have fought to get justice,” Jagseer Singh, son of Ranjit Singh, reportedly said outside the court while reacting to the punishment awarded.
The Dera head appeared through video conferencing from Sunaria Jail, in Haryana’s Rohtak. He is lodged in that jail. The rest of the four were present in the court at the time of the CBI special court sentencing.
