New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday dropped Asim Ahmed from his Cabinet on charges of corruption.
The ruling AAP Government in Delhi has reffered Ahmed’s case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).”The public trusts us as honest politicians. We are here not for power. So we will not spare our own ministers, MLAs, officers,” he added.
This is the second major change in the Aam Aadmi Party government, which took charge in February.
In June, Jitender Tomar resigned as law minister after he was accused of faking his college degree.
Mr Kejriwal emphasized that he had acted without any prompting. “Nobody brought this matter to us, the media was not aware of this,” he asserted.
From being a member of the Aam Aadmi Party’s minority wing to securing a cabinet berth, Asim Ahmed Khan is known as the ‘giant-killer’ for defeating five-time MLA Shoaib Iqbal in Matia Mahal assembly constituency.
Asim Ahmed Khan, a businessman, became part of the Kejriwal cabinet after winning an unlikely victory against veteran Shoaib Iqbal in Matia Mahal. He was given charge of Food and Civil Supply, Environment and Forest and Election departments.
