Patna : The state election commission said on Monday, Bihar recorded 57% polling in first phase of the assembly election, an increase of 6.15 per cent from thecomparision with 2010 election. While the female turnout was 59.5 per cent, 54.5 per cent of males cast their ballot, the state EC said.
“Samastipur recorded 60 per cent polling, Begusarai recorded 59 per cent, Khagariya 61 per cent, Bhagalpur 56 per cent, Banka 58 per cent, Munger 55 per cent, Lakhisarai 54 per cent, Sheikhpura 55 per cent, Nawada 53 per cent and Jamui 57 per cent,” Umesh Sinha, deputy election commissioner said.
In Bihar, amidst tight security arrangements, polling in 49 constituencies of the state passed off peacefully. No untoward incident has been reported from any part of the state so far. An estimated 57 percent voting was recorded.
Maximum 61 percent voting was recorded in Khagaria district while least voting 53 percent in Nawada district. In 13 naxal infested constituencies polling was trouble free. Polls to the remaining four phases will be held between the 16th of this month and the 5th of the next month. Counting will be held on 8th November. The term of the current Assembly expires on 29th November.
Important candidates whose fate will be decided today include Ministers Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Damodar Rawat. Besides State LJP President Pashupati Kumar Paras , State chief of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) Shakuni Chaudhary, former Assembly Speaker Sadanand Singh and former Minister Renu Kushwaha are also in the fray.
