Karachi: The real life “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” Geeta will back India shortly. Recently Salman Khan blockbuster “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”, based on the story of a speech impaired girl stuck in India, and one man’s mission to reunite her with her family in Pakistan. The Indian government has traced the parents of Geeta, an Indian girl who entered the Pakistani territory 13 years ago by mistake, a report said on Thursday.
Geeta, a deaf-mute Indian woman forced to live in Pakistan after accidentally crossing the border, has found her family, officials in New Delhi confirmed today. She will be flown home after 12 long years, as soon as her documents are sorted out.
Geeta, now 21, was found by the Pakistan Rangers 13 years ago, sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express in Lahore that had come across the Wagah border.She was taken to the Edhi Foundation, Pakistan’s largest charity, in whose care she has remained ever since.She lives at a home run by the charity in Karachi, in a room that is full of images of Hindu gods.
Sources say Geeta has identified her father, step-mother and siblings from a photograph sent to her by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. The family reportedly lives in Bihar.
Geeta watched “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” recently and reportedly broke down in tears and became determined to go home.
As Geeta’s story gained fresh media attention, the Indian government vowed to bring her home in a movie-style happy ending.
